Statistical Glimpse
Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the department’s (82) sworn officers, and (13) civilian employees are divided into four separate divisions. The largest is the Patrol Division. Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Police who oversees all of the department’s field operations, this division is under the command of (3) Lieutenants, and (6) Sergeants over three separate shifts. Members of this division are encouraged to be active in Community Oriented Policing. A Community Resource Office was developed in 2010 which is staffed by (1) Sergeant and (3) Officers who work under the direction of the Staff Services Commander. The department has developed neighborhood sub-stations to help in this effort.

In 2022, the Lewiston Police Department responded to 51,241 calls for service, which resulted in 6,129 cases of further follow-up handling, and 1,913 arrests (including citations). Of those 6,129 complaints, 401 were referred to Youth and Family Services, while 410 were referred to Criminal Investigation Detectives. View 2022 Annual Report
In 2021, the Lewiston Police Department responded to 45,828 calls for service, which resulted in 5,516 cases of further follow-up handling, and 1,647 arrest (including citations). In 2020, the Lewiston Police Department responded to 50,196 calls for service, which resulted in 5,601 cases of further follow-up handling, and made 1,737 arrests (including citations). In 2019, the Lewiston Police Department responded to (47,162) calls for service, which resulted in (5,919) cases of further follow-up handling, and made (1,985) arrests (including citations). In 2018, the Lewiston Police Department responded to (44, 260) calls for service, which resulted in (5,775) cases for further follow-up handling, and made (1,988) arrests (including citations). Of those (5,775) complaints, (835) were referred to Youth and Family Services, while (401) were referred to the Criminal Investigation Detectives.
In 2017, the Lewiston Police Department responded to (43,327) calls for service, which resulted in (5,952) cases of further follow-up handling, and made (2,059) arrests (including citations). Of those (5,952) complaints, (794) were referred to Youth and Family Services, while (524) were referred to Criminal Investigation Detectives.
