The "Citizens' Police Academy" is a (10) week course of presentations which is conducted by Lewiston Police Officers and other professionals who are engaged in the Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement efforts which occur within our local community. The instructors will provide information concerning the particular areas of the profession.
Various topics are presented from the perspective and viewpoint of trained police officers. Though there is a course schedule, the presentations are designed to be interactive and informal in order to permit the citizens attending to have the opportunity to discuss in a question and answer forum. The goal of this program is to foster an increased understanding between our officers and the residents of the community in which they serve. These classes often build relationships which continue long after the "graduation". The curriculum is frequently updated to stay current and offer a unique prospective on the issues we currently face.

This is an opportunity for applicants to learn about the department, and for the department to learn about the concerns of its community members. This is NOT a police officer training school and is NOT an open forum to discuss previous law enforcement contacts or grievances. All discussions will be held with respect to the class-time schedule.
Course presentations and discussion include matters pertaining to the use of force, as well as some of the particular laws which govern policing. Attendees will also be exposed to some of the special skills which are often used in modern policing. Each participant is also provided with an opportunity to accompany an officer in an active duty ride-along exposure.
The next Citizens Police Academy will start on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. This is a ten (10) week program, and the class will meet each Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lewiston Police Department.
For any questions and application submissions, please email Officer Joe Philippon or call 513-3010. Completed applications can also be mailed to Officer Philippon at the mailing address for the Lewiston Police Department.
