The City of Lewiston is a U.S Department of Housing and Community Development (HUD) entitlement city, receiving Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) funding. Since its inception in 1974, this department has administered $40 million in CDBG funding providing a myriad of programs and services including rehabilitation, infrastructure improvements, park improvements, facade improvements downtown, and funds a broad range of social services.
In addition to the CDBG funding, community development administers $4.9 million in other federal, state and local grants including Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Program grants, HUD lead hazard control funding, Neighborhood Stabilization Program funding, Auburn-Lewiston HOME Consortium Grant for Lewiston.
