Responsibilities & Services
The Planning and Code Enforcement Department promotes, coordinates, and enforces land use activities within the City of Lewiston in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan and applicable ordinances. Some areas of involvement include the Planning Board, Board of Appeals, development review process, historic preservation, and zoning and land use. The Department of Planning and Code Enforcement is also responsible for the issuance and inspection of the following:
- Inspections: Sanitation inspection (restaurants and lodging), license inspection, property maintenance inspection, land use inspection, and flood plain management
- Permits: Building permits, electrical permits, plumbing permits, and sign permits
