Business Licenses

General Requirements

The City Clerk's Department oversees and administers the business licensing program for the City of Lewiston. The city licenses over 40 different types of businesses as required by either Maine State Statutes or the City Code of Ordinances. Per City Policy No. 7 all licensees are required to file an application at least seven (7) days prior to the event. Failure may be grounds for denial of the application. Prior to receiving a city license to conduct a business, most business types listed below require an inspection from the city from either the Fire Department, Code (Health) Department, or Police Department. Questions regarding applications, fees, and so forth for the types of business licenses listed below should be directed to the City Clerk's Department at 207-513-3124 or 207-784-5999 TTY/TDD.
